What is the Personal Interest Survey? The Personal Interest Survey is conducted annually among a randomly selected group of adults throughout the United States. Ipsos Mendelsohn conducts the survey and provides the results to clients who subscribe to it in order to learn about the interests of a nationwide sample of Americans. Our clients for this survey include leading advertisers, advertising agencies, and media companies throughout the United States. Typically we mail an advance letter or postcard to let recipients know that a survey will be sent to them. About a week later, we mail a questionnaire in a large white envelope, accompanied by a letter, a return envelope, and a small gift as a token of our appreciation for recipients' help with the survey. All our outgoing envelopes are printed with our company logo, name, and address. We ask questions about lifestyle (such as public activities or vehicle ownership), personal interests (such as sports activities, television viewing, or magazine readership), and demographics (such as age or education). How do we get the names of people to be interviewed? We purchase names and addresses from companies that supply such lists. The list companies get the names from many sources, including telephone directories, real estate records and other lists of public record, as well as from a variety of proprietary sources. Most of the households in the United States appear on these lists. For the purpose of this survey, names are chosen at random from a list of tens of millions of names. Do we give out information about people who respond to our surveys? Any information given by respondents to our surveys is completely confidential. For our clients, we supply statistical tables and reports that combine information given by all the respondents. We report answers by certain groups, such as men, women, geographic region, and age, but we never give out any information for any individual names. Note that we never sell or otherwise pass on the names of people who respond. If you receive a questionnaire to fill out... We hope you will participate in our survey.
